Pastor Appreciation Month

October has been set aside as Pastor Appreciation month, an opportunity for us to rally around our pastors and let them know how much we care for them. Here are some suggestions for your church to consider.

There are many ways to encourage your pastor without going overboard on expensive gifts, or giving him something cheap.  Perhaps the most important thing to consider is that your words and your actions that go along with the gift are what will make the gift special.  If the pastor is genuinely appreciated, the value of any gift you give will be directly connected to the words and actions of appreciation that are expressed.

As you present your gift of appreciation to your pastor, here are a few things you might let him know that you appreciate.

            His faithfulness to God
            Patience with people
            Love for God
            His devotion to God's Word
            For making the hard tings of scripture easy to understand
            The early mornings and late evenings spent in the hospital
            Words of encouragement he has spoken
            For being willing to stand for truth
            Counseling people in their times of trouble
            Comforting people who are suffering
            His time spent in prayer for the people
            Sacrifice and commitment during hard times

1. Gift certificate for his favorite book store.
2. A round of golf at an exclusive golf course.
3. Tie clips and accessories, things that make it easy for him to be identified as a Christian or a pastor.
4. Gift travel – tickets to some place he and his wife really want to visit.
5. Christian Wall art – a beautiful inspirational picture with a scripture verse.
6. A plaque that expresses a word of encouragement from scripture.
7. Gift certificate for a fancy restaurant.
8. A pen set or inspirational gift that he can put on his desk or a shelf. 
9.  A hat or other Christian apparel.

Pastor Appreciation Ideas from the Whole Congregation

Your acts of kindness can speak much louder than words.  Consider what can be done for the pastor, his wife and his family to show your appreciation.
           

1. A two night bed & breakfast gift package for the pastor and his wife.
2. Help him complete a project at home that is not getting done because he is called to serve people.  Perhaps he needs a shop building, wash the cars, change the oil, paint the house, organizers for the garage, seed the lawn, install a swing set for the kids, put in a garden with fresh top soil, new shelves for books, etc.
3. Gift certificates for babysitting, so the pastor and his wife can have a date night each week.
4. Cards, notes and letters for people throughout the whole congregation.
5. Special time of prayer during the service for the pastor & family.
6. Provide a family outing for the pastor's whole family.
7. BBQ and fun at a park in the pastor's honor.
8. Golf / health club membership
9. Commit to praying for the pastor.
10.  Flowers for the living… have a fellowship time where people can share a testimony of how the pastor and his wife have been an encouragement
